12.12.21. Maki-e (蒔絵), literally translating to “sprinkled picture,” is a Japanese technique where layers of urushi lacquer are applied to a surface. An apprentice under the tutelage of famous lacquer artist Mushu Yamazaki (山崎夢舟) crafted this fountain pen with maki-e.
The “Seagull 1963” is the official re-issue of the legendary chronograph from Tianjin Watch Factory. As the watch’s dial suggests, the movement uses “21 Zuan,” or 21 jewels. This movement was derived from its 19-jewel predecessor developed in 1961 under “project 304,” the first aviation chronograph movement for the Air Force of the People's Liberation Army. Talk about a full package: value, history, and utility.
12.12.21. This watch is the second iteration of the cult classic Grand Seiko “Snowflake” (SBGA211), preceded by the original SBGA011. The most apparent difference sits on the watch dial, where Grand Seiko chose to simplify branding. Only “Grand Seiko” can be seen in the SBGA211, whereas the predecessor SBGA011 had both “Seiko” and “Grand Seiko” text on the dial.
